Mike Fingerhood, MD
Johns Hopkins Medicine
Unlike Osler, but like 9% of the population of the United States, I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I've lived only in places that begin with the letter “B": Brooklyn growing up, the Bronx for medical school, and Baltimore for college, residency, and life onward. I've devoted my career to a love of primary care and as a passionate advocate for patients with substance use disorders, through direct patient care, teaching, research and community activism. I lead the division of chemical dependence within the department of medicine at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and also have a joint appointment in the Bloomberg School of Public Health. I was an inaugural member of the Miller Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence and an early blogger for the Academy. When not at work, I spend time doing a variety of outdoor sports, traveling, and trying new ethnic restaurants with my wife and sometimes two daughters, if they're around and don't mind being seen with me.
