This painting, titled “Community,” represents the many people who can make up a patient’s support network. Though we often only meet a patient in the context of a clinic visit or hospitalization, recognizing their humanity beyond their diagnosis allows us to give more empathetic and personalized care that’s aligned with the patient’s goals. Everyone, in both the painting and in life, is multifaceted and has their own ideas of what they hope to achieve in treatment. This painting celebrates that individuality while also highlighting the help we can draw from our own communities in times of need.
